Jump To End Of Contiguous Row Or Column Of Data (mouse): “Border click” (double-click (or DC) on selected cell’s border in direction you want to go)

Using some of the shortcuts we just reviewed, let’s say you want to go down the far left column of data, stopping to inspect each blank, or making sure there are no blanks. Just hit Ctrl+↓ as many times as you need. You’ll know you’ve passed the last cell when you skip all the way to the last row of the tab (row 1048576 in my Excel 2010 and 2013). (The fastest way to get to the very end is to keep Ctrl+Arrow pressed until the cursor stops moving. When it stops moving, it has reached the end of the row or column).

Go To Very End Of Column Or Row (keyboard): Ctrl+Arrow and keep pressed until cursor stops moving

Then to get back to the last cell with data in that column or row, do Ctrl+Arrow in the opposite direction. This technique is useful for probing the worksheet to look at its edges (more later on this).

When dealing with just one screen’s worth of data, I’ll often jump around using my mouse. But when the data spans multiple screens, I find it faster to use the keyboard shortcuts.

But you’ll often want to select the cells in a range, not just skip over them. Simple to do – just add the Shift key to your mix as noted earlier:

Select Contiguous Row/Column Of Cells (keyboard): Ctrl+Shift+Arrow.

All you’re doing is adding Shift to the mix. So to select the range B2:E2 start with your cursor on B2, then hit Ctrl+Shift+→. This selects B2:E2.
